Montalcino – Val D’Orcia

Brunello Kingdom

Not far from Cinigiano is the medieval village of Montalcino, built on a fortress and surrounded by a wall, dominated by an ancient castle

Montalcino

Montalcino is known throughout the world for the excellent production of Brunello di Montalcino. In the immediate neighborhood of Montalcino, reachable via a road full of vineyards and olive groves, is the Abbey of Sant’Antimo

The Romanesque abbey built in travertine is in the middle of a land filled with centuries-old olive trees. Montalcino is one of the starting points of the Val d’Orcia, a set of sinuous hills full of ocher-colored land, dotted here and there with yellow and red flowers, oaks and olive groves and crossed by country roads surrounded by vineyards or cypresses. Several villages and small towns are located in Val d’Orcia

These include the marvellous village of Bagno Vignoni, famous for its ancient tub filled with hot spring water in the main square. Not far away Pienza and Montepulciano, two unique towns with Renaissance buildings , churches, beautiful squares and small hidden corners. From both you can also enjoy a breathtaking view of the surrounding hills of the Val di Chiana and Val D’Orcia.
